Lorain County Medical Reserve Corps Kick-Off Day

8/28 -- The Lorain County Medical Reserve Corps is hosting an MRC Kick-Off Day on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lorain County Community College's Spitzer Conference Center. This event is free of charge for registered MRC volunteers and any interested Lorain County citizen who wants to learn more about this volunteer program. The purpose of the event is for volunteers and interested citizens to learn more about the Lorain County MRC and show how the MRC will work closely with public health efforts and response agencies during times of emergency and non-emergency. Local speakers will discuss topics such as volunteer responsibilities and expectations, liability coverage, background checks, collaboration with the medical community during emergencies, and upcoming trainings and events. The event also fulfills one of the recommended trainings for registered MRC members set by the national MRC office. Food and beverages will be provided at the event.

West Nile Virus Confirmed in Lorain County

8/6 -- Two pools of mosquitoes from Lorain County have tested positive for West Nile Virus. The mosquitoes were caught on June 25th and July 9th from Grafton and Columbia Townships, respectively.

Lorain County Medical Reserve Corps

6/23 -- Volunteer opportunities have increased in Lorain County, and the Lorain County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is here to coordinate these efforts. The Lorain County MRC was created in March 2008 to enhance response efforts during times of emergency and non-emergency. The Lorain County MRC is state and nationally recognized, which allows for enhanced training opportunities and liability coverage for registered volunteers. The Lorain County MRC is currently enrolling volunteers in the program. Medical professionals, as well as non-medical volunteers, are encouraged to join.
